Entering my fourth year of freelancing, I resolutely turned around and entered the field of one-person companies (artist companies), starting a new three-year journey. I previously shared my thoughts on running an artist company on Xiaohongshu, and many friends left messages asking about their experiences. This also prompted me to fully interpret the connotation of the artist company in this video, and honestly share the "steps" I have experienced along the way. pit".
The concept of an artist company originated from the book "Artist Enterprise", which advocates a business model that can be run by one person without large-scale profit expansion. Under the premise of controllable profits, this model allows practitioners to operate with ease. According to my observation, most domestic freelancers tend to move towards a one-person company model when they reach a mature stage. After all, personal time and energy are limited. After reaching a certain stage, more work can be completed and more profits can be created through outsourcing or project-based collaboration. At the same time, there is no need to spend a lot of money to hire full-time employees like traditional companies, thereby maximizing profits.
1. The pressure of a generalist : One person in a company needs to wear multiple hats and be responsible for the work of various departments of the company. In the early days of starting a business, I often broke down and became anxious because I couldn’t do what I wanted to do. Later, I realized that sustainable entrepreneurship requires maintaining a good physical and mental state, so I started to eat regularly, go to bed early and get up early, exercise regularly, and worked hard to adjust. 2. The game between nature and planning : As a person whose last letter in MBTI is P, he is free and casual by nature and does not like planning. But when one is running a business, you have to fight that natural tendency to force yourself to get organized, and that can be a real challenge. 3. Brand marketing issues : Compared with personal IP, the marketing and promotion of company brands is more difficult. The public has a high degree of trust in personal IP, but the company's brand marketing model is completely different and requires stronger marketing and brand knowledge, which is a major threshold for people to transition from personal IP. 4. Accept a job you don’t like : There is no job in the world that you 100% like. Even a job you love has 20% of things you don't like. In the past few years, I have been telling myself to accept and try to use 80% of the things I like to eliminate the 20% of the things I don’t like, treat it as a mental training, and face it with a positive attitude.
A one-person company can be seen as an upgraded version of freelancing or personal IP. The important thing is not to get hung up on concepts, but to treat every job with the model of running a company, running through the business closed loop, and achieving growth. No matter how difficult a person's corporate journey is, he must take good care of his physical and mental health and cultivate his internal and external health in order to go further.
